VECHS Background Checks – Protecting Your Community

What is VECHS?
VECHS is a program run by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) under the National Child Protection Act (NCPA) and Florida Statute 943.0542. It allows qualified organizations to access state and national criminal history records, helping ensure the safety of the most vulnerable members of our communities.
Who Can Use VECHS?
Organizations that provide care, supervision, education, or placement services for children, seniors, or individuals with disabilities can apply for VECHS. This includes:
- Nonprofit and for-profit agencies
- Private schools
- Volunteer organizations
- Senior care providers
- Disability service organizations
If your organization is already required by law to conduct background checks, you may need to follow a different process outside of VECHS.

How to Enroll in VECHS
Getting started with VECHS is simple:

Submit an Application
- Fill out the VECHS application and send it to FDLEVECHS@fdle.state.fl.us.

Wait for Approval
- The FDLE reviews applications, typically within ten business days.

Complete Enrollment
- Once approved, you’ll receive the necessary details to finalize your participation.
VECHS Fingerprinting Fees
- Employees: $37.25
- Volunteers: $29.25
